This involved building a headless WordPress backend (CMS) to handle content management (pages, blog, portfolio, team, etc.), paired with a custom theme front-end built with Next.js. The result is a fast, SEO-friendly, responsive site that offers a smooth user experience while being easy for editorial staff to update and manage.

Scope & Features
Here are the key features & components of the site:
Headless CMS using WordPress WordPress is used purely as a content backend. All content types (About, Services, Portfolio, Blog, Careers, Team, etc.) are modeled in WP, so non-technical users can edit or add content via the WP admin.
Custom Next.js front end The front-end is built in Next.js to enable server-side rendering / static-site generation where applicable, for performance, SEO, and fast loading. It supports React components, dynamic routing, image optimization, etc.
Custom Theme & Design Implementation A custom theme was created to match Knutson Construction’s branding: colors, typography, layout, visual elements. The design emphasizes clarity, professionalism, showcasing impressive portfolio visuals, and promoting Knutson’s values (safety, community, quality, etc.).
Portfolio & Project Showcases A section that highlights active projects, completed works, by industry (Healthcare, Education, Government, etc.), with high‐quality imagery, filtering / categorization.
Services & Industries taxonomy Detailed pages for services offered, and industries served. These are well organized so visitors can easily understand what Knutson does and their expertise areas.
Team / Careers / Community pages Content to help with recruiting (careers), showcasing the people behind the company, and demonstrating Knutson’s involvement in and contributions to the community.
Blog / News For sharing updates, news, thought leadership or stories. Helps in SEO and in engaging with stakeholders.
Locations / Contact Multiple locations (offices) listed, easily accessible contact information. Possibly a search or map, depending on design.
Performance, SEO, Responsiveness Optimized for loading speed, mobile responsiveness, image optimization, good SEO structure (metadata, URL structure, etc.).
Safety, Diversity, Awards Highlighting company values and credentials: safety practices, diversity, recognition and awards.
Technical Details Architecture: Headless WP (API / GraphQL or REST) as content source + Next.js front-end (using SSG, SSR or hybrid per-page depending on content). Custom theme: Tailored design system, component library (e.g. for cards, grids, headers, etc.), reusable across sections. Routing & Navigation: Dynamic routing for portfolio, services, team. Clean menu structure for About, Services, Portfolio, Blog, Contact, etc. Media management: Handling high-res project images, optimizing for different devices, lazy loading, etc. Hosting & Deployment: Likely deployed via hosting that supports Next.js (e.g. Vercel, Netlify, or custom server), with CI/CD pipeline. WP backend hosted separately, securely, with backups. Accessibility & Best Practices: Ensuring responsive design, proper semantic HTML, alt text, etc.
